Actually working on the study of persistent organic pollutants' (POPs) carcinogenic effects using the model organism Dictyostelium discoideum, focusing on polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) mechanism of action and their relationship with hematological malignancies. Since the amoeba is a normal component of the soil microflora and there are still some areas in Piemonte where the level of PCBs have a high probability of exceedind the legal limits, the effects on wild Dictyostelium genome, isolated from that zones, will also be assessed. Moreover, since PCBs can impair iron uptake, D.d will also be used to investigate iron homesotasis dysregulation.
